MAPHIS NURSERY AND TREE FARM ENJOYS OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP EDUCATE AND INFORM.
All classes are conducted in the old nursery facility (814 Rattlebox Road, Chipley, FL 32428) unless otherwise noted. You may call or text 850-638-8243 to register for the ones that interest you. All classes have a minimum/maximum. If minimums are not met, classes will be cancelled.
We have a varied group of instructors and each is listed with the class they teach. Many times we have attendees who are very knowledgeable about the subjects being taught and we welcome their help.

Old Fashioned Cane Syrup Making Day
Come and help, or watch while we make cane syrup in a 100 gallon cast iron kettle. The complete process will take about 6 hours.
Fruit Tree Pruning
A short session in the classroom to explain the basic principles of fruit tree pruning followed by hands on demonstration in our small orchard. Be sure to bring your pruners (by-pass). The following trees will be pruned: peaches, nectarines, apples, Japanese persimmons, blueberries and mayhaws.
This class will deal with types of citrus grown in the Panhandle of Florida and the challenges that need to be dealt with. Insect problems, fertilization and freeze protection will be discussed. If you have a citrus tree you are having a problem with be sure to bring an example of your problem.

Choose and cut Christmas tree fields open.
Muscadines & Crape Myrtle Pruning
Come and let us teach you how to prune muscadines and crape myrtles. Twenty feet of muscadine vine can produce up to 75 pounds of fruit when pruned correctly. We will be providing a hands on demonstration of both of these here at the nursery.
Apple & Pear Grafting
A complete session on the classroom to explain the basic principles of fruit tree grafting. You will be able to take home two trees that you have grafted in class.
